This policy describes how 8-Bit Morphs (the game at
8bitmorphs.com and the iOS/Android apps) handles information.
The core game can be played without creating an account. Signing in unlocks cloud save, friends, market
features, and purchase delivery.
Information we collect
-
Game progress (local): Your colony, snakes, inventory, and settings are stored on your
device (browser storage on web; app storage on mobile) so the game can run offline.
-
Account (optional): If you sign in, we store an account identifier and email address
through our auth provider (Supabase). You may set a public login username used for
friends, invites, and market display.
-
Cloud save (optional): When signed in, a copy of your game save may be uploaded to our
database so you can resume on another device or after reinstalling.
-
Social & market activity: Friend links, direct messages, player market listings,
bids, ISO posts, and related gameplay records are stored server-side when you use those features while
signed in.
-
Purchases: Premium Morph Gem packs, Founder Pack, and supporter membership are processed by the
payment platform you use — Stripe on the website,
Apple App Store or Google Play in the mobile apps. We do not receive
your full card number. We store purchase and entitlement records (for example product id, transaction
reference, and fulfillment status) linked to your account so items appear in-game.
-
Analytics (optional): We may use PostHog to understand usage (for
example page views, session length, and coarse feature events). When you are signed in, analytics may
be linked to your account id and email for troubleshooting — not for advertising.
-
Push notifications (optional): If you enable notifications on mobile and are signed in,
we store a device push token and your notification preferences so we can send colony, market, or event
alerts you opted into.
-
Support messages: If you contact us on Discord or email, we receive whatever you choose
to share.
How we use information
- Run the game, sync saves, and deliver purchased digital goods
- Operate friends, chat, and the player market
- Send push notifications you requested
- Prevent abuse, resolve payment disputes, and fix bugs
- Improve stability and features through aggregated analytics
We do not sell your personal information.
Where data is stored & who processes it
Data is processed by service providers we use to run the game, including:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and cloud saves
- Netlify — hosting and server functions (checkout, IAP verification, push sending)
- Stripe — web payments (where available)
- Apple / Google — mobile in-app purchases
- PostHog — product analytics (when enabled)
These providers may process data in the United States or other countries. Their own privacy policies
govern how they handle payment and infrastructure data.
Retention
We keep account, save, and purchase records while your account is active and as needed for backups,
fraud prevention, and legal obligations. Local device data stays until you clear app/browser storage or
uninstall. You may request account deletion by contacting us on Discord.
Your choices
- Play without signing in — limited to local progress; no cloud backup or social features.
- Push notifications — off by default until you enable them in Settings; disable anytime in system Settings.
- Analytics — if PostHog is not configured for a build, no browser analytics run.
- Delete account — contact us; we will delete or anonymize associated cloud data where feasible.
Children
8-Bit Morphs is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information
from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child provided personal data.
Security
We use industry-standard practices (encrypted connections, access controls, and provider security) but
no online service is perfectly secure. Keep your login credentials private.
Changes
We may update this page from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use
after changes means you accept the revised policy.
